Accomplishments
- As a result of the Shared Services Network process, Indian River Community College (IRCC) joined with other organizations (Sprint, city and county government, the Okeechobee District School Board, Communities in Schools of Okeechobee County, and additional agencies) in applying for a technology grant from the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) Technology Opportunities Program. IRCC will provide in-kind support of fiscal and technical personnel support, technical equipment and related services valued at a minimum of $750,000.
- Due to the Shared Services Network mechanism, Okeechobee County has received a GEAR UP Grant for $3,235,293.00. A GEAR UP project works with students beginning in 6th or 7th grade to ensure that they receive the support and preparation to succeed in college. It was indicated that Okeechobee received the award instead of larger, neighboring counties because of the many community agency letters of support.
- Letters of support for various local projects and grants have come from numerous community agencies.
- the project worked with Florida Atlantic University in establishing a more accessible and innovative MA Degree in counseling.
- Okeechobee County's Executive Roundtable has joined with the roundtables in Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River Counties in establishing a four count "Shared Services Alliance of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast."
- The roundtable has located local funding of the continuation of the Shared Services Network project.
