The Early Intervention Project (EIP) was initiated to improve the evaluation and assessment of young children with medical problems, birth through three years of age. The EIP represents a collaborative effort between the USF School Psychology Program (College of Education), USF College of Medicine, Tampa General Hospital, and Hillsborough County School District. The Project provides direct interdisciplinary evaluation and intervention services to children and their families. The services are provided on-site in the College of Education and on Davis Islands. Children and families in the Tampa area benefit directly from these services. Graduate and medical students benefit from the training opportunities. USF faculty benefit from the opportunity to work with children with diverse medical, social, and education needs. This project includes the development of a multifaceted training curriculum for professionals in others areas of the State of Florida. Specific training goals, utilizing advanced technology, are: 1) to develop a distance learning course (Web-based) in the Assessment of Young Children that will be disseminated in May 2002, 2) to initiate an on-line web site to support the activities of the project, 3) to create an interactive CD-ROM to support the assessment training, 4) to disseminate a transdisciplinary training model for the assessment of young children, and 5) to present training sessions on the EIP at regional, state, and national professional conferences. |
